Take him to Puerto Rico or Nassau. Both islands are great to explore with a 8 year old. Love the water in the Bahamas so that would be my first choice. I did see Jetskis and plenty of watersports (snorkeling too) in Nassau. Check out Atlantis on Paradise Island across the bridge from Nassau. Lots of activities for your son.

Enjoy your time with him)
References :
I would recommend Puerto Rico. Not only do you have the beach and water sports, but they have historical and natural sights as well. Its a trip that can be fun and also educational. My second choice would be Dominican Republic. DR does have a lot of poverty, and you will encounter beggars and street hustlers, but if you can get past that, it is an extremely beautiful country with a lot of culture and history. Santo Domingo is the capital, its urban and has a lot of historical sights, however it is not that close to the beach.
References :
http://www.gotopuertorico.com/

I personally think Puerto Rico is great because there is so much to do. In San Juan you can discover the ancient spanish fort 'El Morro' overlooking the ocean & go inside to see it w/ cannons still in place. Then there is 'El Yunque' the tropical rain forest. There are no poisenous animals there unlike the Amazon & you can drive through it on a road then hike down to 'La Mina' waterfalls & swim in the refreshing water. There is also a bioluminescent bay that you can kayak & swim in. The bay water glows in the dark when its touched, that is amazing! There is also Camuy Caves, the 3rd largest caves in the world & Areibo telescope, the largest radio telescope in the world. It can be seen in movies Contact & James Bond Goldeneye.

& of course thee are great beaches & tons of water activities including jetskis. You will find great beaches & water activities at all of these islands so whatever you choose is good. PR is a US territory so no passport for US citizens & USD money & safe drinking water also a plus. ENJOY your trip w/ your son, you sound like a great Dad!
References :
http://www.gotopuertorico.com/

I can highly recommend Barbados, Hilton is right next to the beach. And not far away the water activities. The hotel allows kids.

For more information, feel free to check website below:

Hope this helps.
References :
Temporarily lived in Barbados

Which caribbean spot best for single dad and son?
I''m a single parent planning on using some of my hotel points for a vacation with my 8 year old son. Last year I took him to the big island of HI, but this year I'd like to try the Caribbean. The hotel chain (Hilton) has hotels in the following spots
Barbados, Curacao, Jamaica, Nassau, Puerto Rico, Santo Dominigo, Trinindad, Tobogo.
Which island above has the most activities that kids would enjoy (watersports, jetskis), and is also kid friendly?
