Barbados is one of the best places to visit. Since you want someplace lively then you can stay St. Lawrence Gap where there is always activity. More information can be had on the net.
References :
I highly recommend Barbados, add St. Lucia, if you want to go to more than one place in all one vacation.

Barbados has a lot to offer, interesting and historic places to see.

Its capital is known for duty-free shopping, there are also beaches that has white, sandy beaches, and clear, beautiful water.

In the capital, you can do anything from dining to shopping. :)

The public transit is cheap. 1.50 BDS each way. It's either a large bus, mini bus or route taxi.

You can always do a tour around the island either by a taxi (ask for flat rate in case), a tour bus, Island Tour (I think).

There are SOO MUCH to see, to do!
References :
CUBA. CUBA. CUBA. (unless you're American, in which case, you're sadly missing out.)

Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic is AWESOME (specifically Playa Dorada). It's a large metropolis, so there's lots to do and lots of people. Playa Dorada is about a 15 minute drive from the city, but there's plenty of clubs and bars and restaurants right where you are!
References :
Personal experience.

San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia and Cozumel, Mexico are all nice lively destinations. They each have lots of things to do and the people are very friendly.
References :
Yea I'd take a cruise so that I could see the islands for myself. But if by next spring you mean late april early may I'd go to Antigua... that's when they have their annual yacht regattas. The night life would be awesome and we have some really good hotels and beaches.
Good Luck.
