How do Dominicans feel about black people from other Caribbean Islands?

Well, many (not all) Dominicans do not seem to like Haiti very much but how do they feel about the people of African descent from nations such as Jamaica, Barbados, Bahamas and other Caribbean islands.

Its actually pretty funny…Dominicans and Haitians tend to dislike each other, but Dominicans usually dont have many problems with English-speaking Blacks at all.

During the 30’s and 40’s, depression hit the British Caribbean hard, so that many people left islands like Jamaica and Barbados and came to the Dominican Republic. While there was resentment at first, they quickly assimilated, marrying Dominican women and becoming part of the culture.

These days, the reverse is happening, and many Dominicans are leaving DR to seek their fortune in the English-speaking caribbean, where the standard of living is much higher and there are more jobs.

I hate Dominicans that think they are a form of black and say the n word. Most that I know swear they’re black but Dominican is more related to Spaniard then Black.

The way they feel about all black people, that they aren’t black and don’t want to be associated with them.

Dominican’s beef wit Haiti is rooted in history. Dominicans have no problems with other black caribbean nations as far as i know, but [[and im not dominican]], i think they had a president called trujillo who made them feel like being black is bad and thats why they deny their blackness, but culturally they are latino anyways.but in general, they are some of the most open minded and friendly people in my opinion.

Well I’m dominican and african american mixed. My father is from the dominican republic who grew up in a small town in santo domingo. From what I was taught dominicans do not hate other african mixed individuals. Dominicans are African slaves and Spaniards just like african americans are mixed with african slaves and europeans this is why my dad consider himself black.
