Caribbean travel tips and tricks

Caribbean travel, islands, all inclusive vactions and more!

Is spending $2000 on a 4 day trip to Caribbean islands reasonable?

Me and my husband are planning a trip, for the first time ever! We are quite surprised by the total price. We will be flying from NY to Bahamas in late August. We just want to know how much does everyone spend on their island vacations, just so we know if we should look for better deals or go with the one our travel agent is providing. (Btw $2000 includes Flight+ Hotel for both of us, not per person).

Umm well it sounds pretty costly to me.

Have you ever heard of Barbados…its an island in the Caribbean. There is a reosrt in Barbados called Barbados Beach Club and they have a special which goes up to December and you get 45% discount off the rate and it is an all inclusive resort with a smashing(wonderful)beach view!!. See below for more details:

Yes, that’s about right for an all inclusive package for 2 persons, including airfare from NYC to Nassau and back with 4 nights of lodging (21/2 to 3 stars) and all meals. Some packages with just a 3 star hotel may cost $ 3,000 for 2.

I think it’s pretty high but you didnt say what resort. THat has a big impact on cost. I have been looking at a site cheapcarribean.com and see some very good deals.

I just found 7 nights in Cancun at Temptations for 751.00 pp including air.

Superclubs is running a promotion for every third night free. ( they own Breezes, Grand Lido, and Hedonism)

I think you can find better. I find that travel agents tend to be overpriced. I travel to the caribbean a few times per year either with friends or alone. My average price is about $6-800 per person. Hotels you can always find deals on. Either call or check the hotel’s website for any promotions. Airfare depends on where you are going. Some places are just more expensive, but deals are still out there and sales happen every week. Also check the airlines websites. The agent may not be offering you the most affordable flight options. The bahamas isn’t that far and flights there are usually pretty inexpensive. Tripadvisor is a great resource because you can get reviews and ask about hotels that are great but also budget friendly. Another good resource is to check the bahamas tourism website. They should have a list of hotels, and inns in the country, in addition to things to do and see. Also another option I sometimes go for is a vacation rental or villa. They are inexpensive and offer the amenities of home.It may not be right for you since this is your first trip but just letting you know your options. Below are a list of links I use when planning my trips.

I travel to different islands in the Caribbean all the time and the most I’ve ever spent was around $200.

Well I guess its because you are leaving from the US.

It really depends on what resort you go to and what time of year you go. If you think the price is high, keep looking as you will often run into deals that are worth looking for.

That seems high to me since I view the Bahamas as a lower cost destination. Four days is only 3 nites, so, assuming you spend $400 pp for air, that’s still $400/nite for a hotel–without any food or drink.

I’ve gone off season, when hotels can go for $100 or less and are on the beach. I’d wager to say you should be able to get around $1250, but maybe not those dates. If you can delay a few weeks, you’ll run into lowest of low season–the time immediately after Labor Day when most Americans are back home because the kiddies are in school. I’ve seen some very attractive deals to various islands during this time.

Or, if I were going to spend $2,000 for a short island trip, I’d fly to St. Martin, check into the Grand Case Beach Club and spend the rest of the money on the excellent food in town, washed down by copious amount of beer, wine and local island elixers.
