Four days is only 3 nites, so, assuming you spend $400 pp for air, that's still $400/nite for a hotel--without any food or drink. I've gone off season, when hotels can go for $100 or less and are on the beach. I'd wager to say you should be able to get around $1250, but maybe not those dates. If you can delay a few weeks, you'll run into lowest of low season--the time immediately after Labor Day when most Americans are back home because the kiddies are in school. I've seen some very attractive deals to various islands during this time. The bahamas isn't that far and flights there are usually pretty inexpensive. Tripadvisor is a great resource because you can get reviews and ask about hotels that are great but also budget friendly. Another good resource is to check the bahamas tourism website. They should have a list of hotels, and inns in the country, in addition to things to do and see. Also another option I sometimes go for is a vacation rental or villa. They are inexpensive and offer the amenities of home.It may not be right for you since this is your first trip but just letting you know your options.
